Static NAT

WiFi Mtaani

Static NAT is a network method that permanently maps one private IP address to one public IP address. It allows a device on a private network to be reached from the internet using the assigned public address.

The mapping stays the same until a network administrator changes it. Static NAT is useful when a device needs a consistent public address.

How It Works

  • A device receives a private IP address on the local network.
  • The router assigns it a specific public IP address.
  • The router translates traffic between the two addresses.
  • Incoming traffic to the public address reaches the mapped private device.
  • The mapping remains fixed.

Common Uses

  • Hosting web servers.
  • Making a mail server reachable from the internet.
  • Providing remote access to network devices.
  • Publishing services from a private network.
  • Giving servers consistent public addresses.
