PON (Passive Optical Network) is a fiber-optic network architecture that allows one provider-side optical line to serve multiple customers through passive fiber components.
A PON uses an OLT to connect the provider’s network to customer-side ONUs or ONTs. Passive optical splitters divide the fiber signal among multiple subscribers without requiring powered equipment between the OLT and customer premises.
