GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a fiber-optic access technology used to deliver high-speed internet and other services from an ISP to multiple customers over a passive optical fiber network.
A GPON network typically uses an OLT at the ISP or network distribution point and ONTs or ONUs at customer locations. The Centipid discussion refers to GPON OLTs, ONUs, fiber splitting ratios and GPON routers in FTTH deployments.
