An ONU (Optical Network Unit) is a device that connects a customer or local network to a fiber-optic access network. It receives optical signals from the provider’s fiber network and converts them into electrical signals that network devices can use.
ONUs are commonly used in PON networks such as GPON and EPON. Depending on the model, an ONU may provide Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi or other connectivity options for customers.
