Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is a network protocol that allows devices to share information about themselves with other devices directly connected to them.

A network switch can use LLDP to learn details about connected routers, switches, access points and other devices. This makes it easier for network administrators to understand and manage the network.

Common Uses

  • Identifying devices connected to a switch.
  • Finding which switch port connects to a specific device.
  • Sharing device names and network information.
  • Mapping network connections.
  • Troubleshooting network connections.
